You will be able to step into the heart of gaming diversity as we proudly present the "Do I Look Like A Gamer?" campaign at this year's Festival of the Girl! We’re inviting attendees to immerse themselves in a weekend filled with excitement, exploration, and empowerment.

Join mayamada as they showcase the diversity of gaming through a variety of activities over the weekend. From indie game showcases to esports tournaments, tabletop gaming to storytelling sessions, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

mayamada Bio:

mayamada is a creative brand with the mission to use storytelling to develop creativity in others. Co-founded by Nigel Twumasi, a former software engineer turned creative entrepreneur, the brand works across manga comics, video games, and youth engagement.

Nigel is a speaker on topics including creativity, diversity, and youth involvement within local communities and various industry events across the UK and globally. Tazziii, the Creative Director and a content creator, brings personality and experience to the team, along with a strong desire to challenge stigmas in video games.

mayamada is a strong advocate for diversity within the creative industries. Their team runs regular creative workshops in schools and other youth organisations as they seek to unlock the creative potential of the next generation.

The brand also runs the "Do I Look Like A Gamer?" representation campaign. This initiative aims to challenge negative stereotypes and promote access to video games and other creative industries for future generations of diverse talent.

Weekend Activities

The following activities are designed to entertain as well as inspire confidence and creativity in young girls, aligning with the festival's mission to challenge gender stereotypes and encourage exploration and self-expression.

 

Share Your Gamer Origin Story:

Every gamer has a story, and we want to help you share yours! In this interactive activity, attendees will have the chance to record each other talking about the games they love and what games mean to them. Not only will you get to share your love of gaming, but you’ll also get hands-on experience with content creation, learning the basics of recording and storytelling. This activity is perfect for inspiring confidence and creativity, showing young girls that their voices matter in the gaming world.

 

“Do I Look Like A Gamer?” Campaign Selfie:

Strike a pose with our campaign selfie frame and show your support for diversity in gaming! Capture the moment and share it on social media to help spread the message. This activity is a fun and interactive way for attendees to engage with the event, promoting positive representation and awareness of inclusivity in the gaming world.

 

Just Dance Tournament:

Get ready to move in our Just Dance Tournament! This competition is perfect for kids who love to dance and express themselves through movement. It’s a fun and energetic way to encourage physical activity, teamwork, and confidence while breaking away from traditional gender stereotypes in gaming and sports.

 

Tabletop Game Design Workshop:

Drop in anytime to our Tabletop Game Design Workshop and discover the magic of making games! In this hands-on activity, you'll learn the basics of game design, from concept to creation. It's an excellent opportunity for young girls to explore the world of game development, fostering problem-solving skills, creativity, and an understanding of how games are made. Whether you're a budding designer or just curious, this workshop is all about experimentation and fun.
